Senior Firefighter, EMT Ronnie Dowell

Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?
I joined the Hendersonville Fire Department on July 12, 1985 with a
great desire for helping people. This job is perfect for just that.
What do you like most about the Hendersonville Fire Department?
The thing I like most about HFD is definitely the people
I work with. We have a great bunch of guys and ladies
who are not only my co-workers, but my friends as well.
I love to teach and this job has given me an outlet to
do just that, not only do I help with the training of my
fellow firefighters, but I also take pride in educating the
public as well with fire safety classes.
Any community activities?
I really stay involved with many community activities such as mentoring.
At the present time I am a mentor to an 8 year old boy in Gallatin
who is without a father figure. I’ve been doing this for 3
years now and the feeling this gives me is indescribable.
It really gives me a boost to know I can actually make a
difference in someone’s life.
What are your future plans?
I am currently single, but have two beautiful daughters
that I am very proud of. Kimberly who has been
married to Dewayne Coure for 3 years and Leslie
who is attending graduate school at Vanderbilt.
Retirement is just around the corner for me and I
plan to take advantage of all the fishing and
hunting I can squeeze into a day. As far as
right now, I will continue to serve the citizens of
Hendersonville on a regular basis and do the
best job I can do to protect them in their time
of need. My years at HFD have been very
satisfying and I thank the community for all the
support that has been given to our department.
