Senior Firefighter, EMT Mike Whited

Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?
I joined the Hendersonville Fire Department on September 27, 1985.
My reasoning for joining the Hendersonville Fire Department was for
the rewards and challenges of being a firefighter. I also had a deep
desire to help people in their time of need. This was a strong wish of mine.
Another reason I wanted to join was because my father and grandfather
were firefighters…I guess it was just in my blood.
What do you like most about the Hendersonville Fire Department?
What I like most about HFD is the way the firefighters are willing to
give 110% to help our community. We are always willing to do
whatever it might take to make our lives and lives of the
citizens of Hendersonville better.
What is the most significant development in your career?
I have seen many changes in HFD since I’ve been here, but I would
have to say, all the new fire halls in the city are the greatest accomplishment.
Hendersonville is growing and we live in a city that is fortunate enough
to grow right along with it to give our citizens the best fire protection we can.
Along with the new stations is the equipment and fire gear that keep the
firefighters safe and to improve our service for the
citizens of Hendersonville.
What are your future plans?
My future plans are to keep working with HFD until I can retire.
At this time I will continue to work doing CPR classes and
helping the fire department any way I can.
Tell us about your family
I have a loving wife of 24 years and two sons. Micheal Jr. works for
First Call Ambulance as a call taker and dispatcher.
My other son Chris Whited is a student at Beech High School.
