Captain Les Waggoner

Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?
In 1977 when I applied at the Hendersonville Fire Department,
I was working as an equipment operator and had always
wanted to operate a fire engine. I knew I wanted to stay
in Hendersonville, so I really wanted to work for a
company that I would enjoy and that would provide good benefits.
What do you like most about the Hendersonville Fire Department?
Over the years, I have developed many friendships
working for the department and from city employees
to my relationship with the community, it has
definitely been an unforgettable experience.
In essence, my years with HFD have ultimately
driven me to want to give back to the city I have grown up in.
What is the most significant development in your career?
To me, the improvement in the fire protection
gear has been the biggest accomplishment
since I began. Ultimately, we are all
here to serve our city and do the best
job possible for its citizens and it helps
to know that safety has always been a
priority not only to those in need, but
to us as firemen.
What are your future plans?
My family is very important to me. I have two
grown children, Chad and Whitney and my
wife Hazel. My wife and I enjoy many
outdoor activities such as walking and
riding bikes. Future plans include
finishing my career at the Hendersonville
Fire Department and begin going to
NASCAR races again.
