Senior Firefighter Jamie Cossler

Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?
After 2 years of football at WKU, I realized the NFL
wouldn’t be calling and I had always wanted to be
a fireman. A family member many years ago
was Assistant Chief in Owensboro, Kentucky so
it was in my blood I guess.
What do you like most about the Hendersonville Fire Department?
The firemen I work with are GREAT!! Everyone
I’ve been put with has been like a true brother.
There are disagreements at times, but in the end
you depend on him like he depends on you.
What is the most significant development in your career?
The constant improved training and the facilities too.
The state fire academy is one of the best facilities
anywhere. We are in the process of getting a fire ground
training facility here thanks to Chief Steele. This is one
of his best assets…his vast training background.
Any community activities?
I have been a member of First Baptist in Hendersonville
over 13 years and have worked as a greeter there for
nearly 5 years. VBS is dear to me as it lead me to
Christ and have helped out in first and 3rd grade c
lasses for over 10 years now.
What are your future plans?
I plan to continue my career in suppression for
as long as the Lord lets me. Hopefully at least
15 more years in which I’ll hope to climb the ladder to Captain.
Tell us about your family
My wife Suzanne and I have been married 17 years
and have a 2 year old son, Kaden who we are still
in the process of adopting. Having Kaden as a son
has given me a whole new vision on how precious life
is and how great it is to be alive.
