Senior Firefighter, EMT Gerry Goacher

Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?
I joined the Hendersonville Fire Department on July 15, 1985 with
high hopes of having a job I could be proud of. Not only am I proud
of my job, this career has been the best I could hope for. I love
coming to work for many reasons. First, the people I work with are
great and just like my extended family. Second, the fact that I get to
use my many years of experience to help the citizens of Hendersonville
in their time of need is more rewarding than anything.
How many jobs can you say that about??
What do you like most about the Hendersonville Fire Department?
Every time I come to work, it’s a new experience for me.
From the moment I start my shift to the end of my shift, I don’t know
what might come my way or what challenges I will face. Regardless o
f the obstacle, the continuing education we receive on
firefighting coupled with experience proves to be the right
formula for success in serving the community.
What is the most significant development in your career?
The most significant development in my career would have to be
when I became a Senior Firefighter along with being an EMT.
During my 22 years of service to HFD, our department has grown by
leaps and bounds. When I was hired, we had only 2 stations in
Hendersonville. Currently we have 5 stations with Station #6
on the way real soon. Station #6 will be located behind
Eckerd Drug at 1003 Winston Hills Drive.
What are your future plans?
I have been married to my wife Alessia for 32 years and have 2 children
and five grandchildren that I am very proud of. My future plans include
continuing to run my horse ranch and I plan to buy some cattle to
run as well. When I retire, I would like to buy a travel trailer or
motor home and do some traveling.
