Firefighter Spotlight

Captain George Edwards

Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?
As a child, my best friend’s father was a firefighter here
in Hendersonville. On several occasions, he brought us
up to the fire station to see the fire engines and all of their
equipment. I absolutely loved it and knew right away that
this was something that I wanted to do with my life.
What do you like most about the Hendersonville Fire Department?
It is an honor to be given the opportunity to serve in this
profession within the community that I grew up in.
I work with a fantastic group of people that help make
this job very rewarding. This is such a great place to work
and I love helping others.
What is the most significant development in your career?
There have been many positive changes within the
department since I started my career 15 years ago.
My recent promotion to the rank of Captain is something
that I am very proud of and has given me a great
sense of accomplishment.
Any community activities?
Since becoming a firefighter, I have been given the opportunity
to take part in many great and worthy causes such as MDA,
United Way and the Christmas 4 Kids Program.
I also help coach my son’s little league baseball teams and
I am involved with them in cub scouts as well.
What are your future plans?
I plan on continuing my education within the fire service
and serving this great department and city for many years to come.
Tell us about your family
My beautiful wife, Amy and I have been married for
15 years now. We have three wonderful children…Blake (12),
Brooke (9) and Braden (7) all of whom attend Beech Elementary.
