Division Chief Gary Parker

Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?
In May 1978 it became very apparent to me that I wanted to
become a firefighter for the Hendersonville Fire Department.
I had previous experience in Wildland and knew I wanted to
pursue this as a career.
What do you like most about the Hendersonville Fire Department?
The HFD is very safety-minded, very people oriented and is the
most progressive department I have ever worked for. I can
honestly say that some of the best friends I have ever had
are in this department.
What is the most significant development in your career?
There have been many developments over the years;
however the most significant, in my opinion
would have to be the fireground command coupled
with lots of extensive training. The training along
with the willingness of the men and women in
this department to serve its community is
outstanding in every way. The families
in the city of Hendersonville are wonderful
to work with as well. To have the opportunity
to work with and teach children about fire
and water safety is rewarding in itself and
takes us home everyday with a feeling of
accomplishment.
What are your future plans?
As far as my personal life, I am a proud grandad of 2 grandsons
which have enhanced so many aspects of my life. I do plan to
continue my career with the fire department for at least 5
more years maintaining the same level of professionalism
which I hope has helped the department to move forward
in many ways.
