Captain, EMT David Herrington

Why did you join the Hendersonville Fire Department?
Being a firefighter is what I’ve always wanted to do since
I was a child. I started my career in EMS in 1988
and was assigned to a fire hall here in the city.
When I heard the department was going to be hiring,
I applied, got the job and haven’t looked back.
What do you like most about the Hendersonville Fire Department?
Everyone comes together and works as a team
in a time of need. The Hendersonville Fire Department
is a group of well trained and dedicated personnel
that take pride in working together as a “Team”.
I am proud to be a part of this group and feel we
grow together everyday. HFD is a great place
to work and I certainly love helping others.
What is the most significant development in your career?
Since joining the department the use of the
Thermal Imaging Camera has been the most
significant and beneficial development.
The technology of this camera definitely helps
us to do our job more efficiently and with greater safety.
Any community activities?
Any activities for the community that are done through
HFD are very important. I think very highly of our
School Safety and Fire Programs, Collecting
for MDA and Department Public Relations.
We all take great pride in educating our citizens
about fire safety.
What are your future plans?
I would like to be promoted to Division Chief
in a few years and plan for retirement from the
Hendersonville Fire Department many years after that.
Tell us about your family
I am married to my beautiful wife Wendy and have one son, Tyler.
