HFD Participates in Second Annual Nashville 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb
The Hendersonville Fire Department participated in the second annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb held at the Tennessee Tower in downtown Nashville.
We were able to send 28 firefighters this year to represent our department. All funds raised go to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
|
Congress created the National
Fallen Firefighters Foundation to lead a
nationwide effort to honor America's fallen
firefighters. Since 1992, the non-profit
Foundation has developed and expanded
programs that fulfill that mandate. Our
mission is to honor and remember America's
fallen fire heroes and to provide resources
to assist their survivors in rebuilding
their lives.

The
stair
climb
was
chosen
for two
reasons:
1.
FDNY
Firefighters
at the
Twin
Towers
on
9/11/01
had to
climb
the
stairs
of the
110
story
buildings
in order
to
rescue
and evacuate
people
and to
reach
the fire
floors.
2.
A
commitment
to
Firefighter
and
community
safety
through
physical
fitness
and
training.
The 343
Firefighters
participating
in the
event
wore
full
gear
(from 60
to 80
pounds)
and
was climbing
for
someone
specifically. Each
climber
was
given a
badge to
wear
with the
name and
photograph
of one
of the FDNY
members
killed
on
9/11/01.
After completing the climb, each firefighter rang the fire bell and called out
the name of the FDNY firefighter they were representing.
The 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb is a way for Firefighters to participate in a special event together to show each other and the rest of the world that the sacrifice made by fellow Firefighters will never be forgotten.
